【摘要】:Fine-grainedsoilsareusedinwastecontainmentsystemsasbarrierstoflowandcontaminanttransport.Liquidscontainedbythesebarrierscancontainionsthatmayinteractwiththemineralsurfacesinfine-grainedsoils.Theliquidpassingthroughtheporesoffine-grainedsoilcaninteractwiththemineralsurface,andaffectthephysicalandchemicalcharacteristicsofthesoil.Thismethodcanbeusedaspartofanevaluationoftheseinteractions.Note18212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandarddependsonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingthetestandthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting,sampling,inspection,etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfensurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors.PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthesefactors.1.1Thistestmethoddescribestheproceduresformeasuringthesolubleandboundcationsaswellasthecationexchangecapacity(CEC)offine-grainedinorganicsoils.Claymineralsinfine-grainedsoilscarryanegativesurfacechargethatisbalancedbyboundcationsnearthemineralsurface.Theseboundcationscanbeexchangedbyothercationsintheporewater,whicharereferredtoassolublecations.Thecationexchangecapacityisameasureofthenegativesurfacechargeonthemineralsurface.TheCECgenerallyissatisfiedbycalcium(Ca),sodium(Na),magnesium(Mg),andpotassium(K),althoughothercationsmaybepresentdependingontheenvironmentinwhichthesoilexists.ThistestmethodwasdevelopedfromconceptsdescribedpreviouslyinLavkulich(1981)(1)andRhoades(1982)(2).Insoilswithappreciablegypsumorcalcite,dissolutionofthesemineralswillreleaseCainsolutionthatmayaffectthemeasurement.1.2Inthistestmethod,thesolublesaltsfromthemineralsurfacearewashedoffwithde-ionizedwaterandthentheconcentrationofsolublesaltswithintheextractismeasured.Theboundcationsoftheclayaremeasuredbyusingasolutioncontaininganindexionthatforcestheexistingcationsintheboundlayerintosolution.Thetotalconcentrationsofboundandsolublecationsinthissolutionaremeasured.TheCECismeasuredbydisplacingtheindexionwithanothersaltsolutionandmeasuringtheamountofthedisplacedindexion.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.1.4AllobservedandcalculatedvaluesshallconformtotheguideforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD6026.TheproceduresinPracticeD6026thatareusedtospecifyhowdataarecollected,recorded,andcalculatedareregardedastheindustrystandard.Inaddition,theyarerepresentativeofthesignificantdigitsthatshouldgenerallyberetained.Theproceduresdonotconsidermaterialvariation,purposeforobtainingthedata,specialpurposestudies,oranyconsiderationsforthe......
